IMS reading flat files in DC environment

Is it possible to read a flat file from an IMS DC transaction? I know that there is the GSAM method that I have used a lot in the IMS DB arena but I now need to read a flat file from an IMS online inquiry. We are currently at IMS V5 going to IMS V7 in the near future. We are using COBOL II with COBOL for OS/390 available.

I know there are a lot of CICS developers here but maybe the IMS developers are lurking in the background.
